For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (St John 3.16–8, ESV)
I am a Christian.
I believe that 2000 years ago God, in His perfect love, sent Jesus Christ, His only Son, into this world to die for my sins. The Bible teaches that all humans have rejected God; because God is perfectly holy and just, every human being deserves to face God’s judgement and wrath.
But God didn’t leave it there. He delivered His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross, the Roman Empire’s ultimate and cruellest form of capital punishment, taking on the pain, suffering, and punishment that was meant for us. On the third day, God raised him from the dead. God promises that all who believe in His Son have been reconciled to Himself—no longer condemned, but inheritors of eternal life, adopted by God as His very own children.
Salvation through Jesus Christ is a free offer from God that is before everyone today. It is up to each of us to respond by calling Jesus Lord and saying sorry that we have done wrong. I do very much hope that you can put your trust in Jesus today.
Essential Bible verses about Christ and how you can respond to Him. Read in the following order.
- Mark 1:14–5 (two things we need to do to receive Jesus):
- Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
- Romans 3:23 (why do we need to repent?)
- 1 Corinthians 15:3–8 (what is the gospel, and what did Christ do for us?)
- Revelations 3:20 (it is up to us to respond and open the door to Christ)

The Apostles’ Creed
The Apostles’ Creed outlines the fundamental beliefs which all Christians affirm.
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Catholick Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.
